Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars, usually appearing in the back of the mouth during the late teens or early twenties. Many mouths don’t have enough room for them, so they can grow in at an angle, get stuck beneath the gum, or only partially break through. This can cause pain, swelling, or crowding against nearby teeth. Wisdom tooth extraction is the procedure used to remove these teeth before they cause further problems. Dr. Uparika Sharma reviews an X-ray first to see the exact position of the tooth and how it’s affecting the jaw. The tooth is then removed using local anesthesia. Some swelling and soreness afterward is normal and settles within a few days. Afterward, medication is provided to support healing, and patients are asked to do salt water gargles and mouth opening exercises at home during recovery.
Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
A tooth has a soft inner layer called pulp, made up of nerves and tissue, sitting beneath the hard outer enamel and dentin. When decay or a crack allows bacteria to reach this inner layer, it can become infected, causing pain, swelling, or sensitivity to hot and cold. A root canal is the procedure used to treat this infection. Dr. Uparika Sharma first takes an X-ray to see how deep the damage goes. The infected pulp is then removed from inside the tooth, the space is cleaned out, and it is sealed to keep bacteria from returning. A crown is placed on top afterward to protect the tooth and restore its strength for normal chewing.
Deep Cleaning (Scaling)
The accumulation of plaque and tartar under the gum line may cause gum diseases in the if not addressed. Deep cleanings help to remove this accumulation from places that a toothbrush cannot reach. Before suggesting deep cleaning, Dr. Uparika Sharma will assess gum conditions and pockets’ depth. Scaling targets both the tooth surface and the root, reducing bacteria that contribute to inflammation. Slight sensitivity after the procedure may occur and goes away in a few days.
Dental Composite Fillings
As opposed to old silver fillings, composite fillings blend well with the tooth’s natural color. They are one of the most common fillings when it comes to front-facing teeth. Dr. Uparika Sharma removes the decayed part of the tooth and prepares it before applying the composite filling. The composite is put on in thin layers, and each layer is cured using a special curing light. Afterward, it is then shaped to match the tooth’s original contour. Composite fillings attach directly to the tooth structure. This results in less destruction of the natural tooth than other kinds of fillings.
Teeth Whitening
The teeth may develop stains as a result of food or beverages consumed, smoking, or even age. Teeth whitening by a dentist does the trick better than those purchased over-the-counter. The dentist examines the color of your teeth and their health and suggests a suitable teeth whitening treatment for you. Bellevue Azalea Dentistry, we use Zoom Whitening, which is an incredibly effective teeth bleaching procedure. It whitens teeth up to eight shades.
Smile Makeover
A smile makeover combines multiple cosmetic and restorative treatments to address concerns such as discoloration, chipped teeth, or uneven spacing. The specific combination of treatments depends on each patient’s dental structure and goals. Dr. Uparika Sharma conducts a full evaluation to determine which procedures, such as whitening, veneers, or bonding, would best achieve the desired result. A treatment plan is then developed in stages, allowing adjustments along the way. The process is tailored individually, since no two smiles require the same approach. Results are typically long-lasting with proper care.
TMJ Disorder Treatment
The jaw joint (TMJ) sits just in front of the ears, connecting the lower jaw to the skull, and allows it to open, close, and move our mouth side to side. When this joint becomes irritated or misaligned, it can lead to clicking sounds, stiffness, or pain while chewing or talking. Clenching the jaw, grinding teeth at night, and an uneven bite are common reasons for this. Dr. Uparika Sharma checks jaw movement and how the upper and lower teeth align together to find out what’s driving the issue. Depending on the findings, treatment might involve a custom night guard, adjusting the bite, or other measures aimed at easing pressure on the joint. Grinding habits, if present, are usually addressed alongside the main treatment. Jaw comfort tends to improve steadily once the underlying cause is treated.
Dental Implants
Dental implants replace missing teeth with a permanent, stable structure that functions similarly to a natural tooth. Dental implants vary by the type of material, the procedure, and the number of teeth they replace. At first, a post that resembles the actual tooth root is placed into the jawbone, where it fuses over time to provide a solid foundation. Since the post needs time to fuse with the jawbone, implants typically take a few months to complete. Dr. Uparika Sharma assesses the bone density and general health of the mouth to determine if one qualifies as a candidate. After the implant is fully integrated, a crown is fixed to finalize the treatment. This crown portion is what you and others can see.
Dentures
Dentures are removable replacements for one or more lost teeth, designed so patients can take them out and put them back in as needed for cleaning or overnight rest. A complete set replaces every tooth along an arch, while a partial set fills in gaps and clips onto the natural teeth that remain. Dr. Uparika Sharma takes careful impressions of the mouth to make sure the fit sits comfortably without slipping while chewing or talking. What the denture is made of, and how many teeth it needs to cover, depends on each patient’s condition. Since they’re removable, there’s usually a short adjustment period where speaking and eating feel a little different until the mouth gets used to them.
Bridges
Unlike removable dentures, fixed bridges stay permanently in place once fitted and need not be taken out. It fills the space left by one or more missing teeth by anchoring a false tooth to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. Left unfilled, that gap can let neighboring teeth drift out of position and throw off the bite over time. Dr. Uparika Sharma checks the health of those anchor teeth and the surrounding gums first, since they need to be strong enough to support the bridge. Once the anchor teeth are shaped and the bridge is custom-fitted, it’s cemented permanently in place, restoring normal chewing and keeping nearby teeth from shifting.
